happy thanksgiving!! it's thursday morning here for us, and i'm happy to tell you all that i've seen the future and thanksgiving looks like it will be good. i hope you all enjoy some delicious meals back home.. and kelton and i will be stuffing our faces with curry and pad thai and whatever else we can get our sausage hands and toes on.
the beach has been treating us well. yesterday the waves were getting up there, and it was great for some pro circuit (little shout out to our aussie crew... we talk about you all the time. muuuah) no sunburns so far.. we realize we're old ladies as we lather on the sunscreen while all the youngings run around bareskinned.
we've been meeting a great lot of people from all over the world, which is one of the most satisfying experiences of traveling. there is a certain bond that we share within the first few minutes of meeting simply for the fact that we're all away from home by choice and everyone has a story to tell. kelton and i are trying our best to dispell all the nasty myths about americans and i think we're doing a pretty good job so far. mostly because we say we're canadian. hehe.. just kidding.
thank you all for your emails of concerns about the thai airport situation. we're not feeling much of the protests here, but we're pretty far south and don't have any plans to travel just yet. we're going to be in phuket for another day and then probably head off to another island around these parts by ferry or bus.
also, i'm not sure if you've heard but there have been some bombings in mumbai, which we aren't scheduled to travel to until march.. but no worries, we are fully aware of the political unrest and will make the decision of what to do when the time comes. who knows.. maybe we'll decide to take a detour to greece instead :)
i hear things in the u.s. are looking pretty grim.. people continuing to lose jobs and everyone is feeling the economic downturn. we obviously had no idea that things would be so bad when we left, and i guess some peope would question if this is a good time to take our savings and spend it at a time when the future of job security is uncertain. from my end, i couldn't be happier with the time we happened to leave. my job situation was already in the air, and i don't think that i would be in a good position if i was there. that's not to say that i'm not more than a little nervous about going back and trying to find a job, but i try not to think about that too much at the moment because there is nothing that can be done until the time comes. i hope that all of you continue to prosper, and at the end of the day, all you can do it wait it out.
that's all i've got for now. happy holidays, enjoy the long weekend with friends and family.. we're thinking of all of you and send our love.

Happy Thanksgiving Kel.Missed you for a wonderful lunch. Keep in touch. We love you very much. Grandma Jean
Glad to read you are keeping updated on the political unrest and traveling smart and safe. I actually came on here just check if you had mentioned it, then was going to email you out of concern if you hadn´t, but glad to see you beat me to it :)
As for the job, I sometimes feel the same way about having chosen to leave a cushy (if unsatisfactory) job for a temporary stay in Rio at a time when people are being laid off left and right. it can be a bit unnerving, especially when I start thinking about what comes next. but then I look around, forget about the future in order to soak in the present, and am reminded that it was most definitely worth it. We can´t put a price on the experience, it is worth more than any money or investment or whatever. just remind me of that next year when I am back in cold chicago, jobless, broke, and living with my parents! on the bright side, I will always have yummy food and no more dirty roommate! :)
dear tati and kelton, we are very happy that so far all is going well and we trust that you will stay safe, enjoy this wonderful experience, you are extremely lucky and loved.
tita
