today we started out the day by climbing 1,237 STEEP steps up to see a huge golden buddha. our friend bob (from the rasta bar) told us, "you haven't seen krabi until you've been to the top" (plus he mentioned something about bringing in pictures of us at the top and getting a free beer.. and we're not the type to turn down such an incentive).
he was absolutely right about not having seen krabi until.. because the view from up there was absolutely breathtaking. we could see multiple islands, and miles and miles of thai countryside. we picked a great day to venture up, as it was a perfectly clear. when we first got there, inside a cave, there were monks praying and we received red thread bracelets from them for good luck (i imagine it was along the lines of "good luck making it all the way up to the top with your legs intact").
it was a really intense climb, as it was literally straight up the side of a mountain.. but the feeling of accomplishment once it was over and the view were certainly worth it. we thought about going back up for sunset... and then our butt muscles told us to get real. (i will never look at a stairmaster the same again)
yesterday we took a speedboat tour around the phi phi islands, which were again.... amazing and breathtaking. the speedboat ride was hilarious because it was a windy day which made the ride SUPER bumpy and being the adventerous types, we chose to sit at the front the entire time. we snorkeled, relaxed.. saw the place where the movie the beach was filmed.. and generally just took it all in and enjoyed life.
that's all for now.. pictures to come.
